DLUX

Jess Martinez, DLUX, 2009.

These three photos i took are capturing flaws and beauty together in an abstract way. I am really enjoying working with abstraction and creating beautiful compositions.

CURRENT EXHIBITIONS I FOUND INTERESTING

Benno Graziani, Jean Pierre Aumont et Marisa, Hollywood, 1956. Gelatin Silver Print, 60x50cm

I chose this photo because i liked the lighting and how it sets a certain mood.

Richard Avedon, Dovima, evening dress by Fath, Paris, August 1950

I liked this fashion photo because of the dramatic way the model is standing and the fact that her whole body is in the photo.

Allen FRAME, Paola, Mexico City, 2007, Chromogenic color print, 30 x 35 1/2 inches

I also like the lighting in this photo. i like the fact that only certain parts of the woman are highlighted and the background is the only color showing.

EDSEL ABSTRACTS - 3 PHOTOS OF MY OWN

Jess Martinez, Edsel Abstracts, 2009.

I chose these three photos because I was trying to create abstract compositions within the photo and still having the subject matter deal with vintage cars. This one in particular is my 59 Edsel.

3 SWELL EXHIBITONS!

Thomas Allen: Epilogue, Blinded, 2009, 24 x 20", Chromogenic Print
foleygallery.com

This series is definitely one of my favorites! Allen creates these scenes by cutting imagery out with an exacto knife and then photographs it. I particularly liked his work because it deals with the 1950's era that i am drawn to.

Nocolai Howalt: Car Crash Studies, Untitled #1, 2009, Digital C-Print, 71 x 86.5"
brucesilverstein.com

I found the Car Crash Series to be very interesting because Howalt takes a certain part of what has been in a crash and he focuses in on it...I like the fact that he is focusing in on what many people would not find pleasing.

Victoria Ryan, Down the Mississippi, Hand-manipulated gelatin silver, 14 x 14" johnstevenson-gallery.com

I chose this photograph because I like the soft lighting throughout the photo and how this gives the whole piece a dream like feel.
